Friday, May 14: Martha Green -- Gaining Momentum
Martha will share tips and techniques she has developed over 35 years of crazy quilting. This class is designed to provide helpful hints for quilters who would like to finish a full size crazy quilt before they die, or just complete smaller items faster. Martha will demonstrate her "Carney" School method of quick piecing and discuss ways to speed up the process. You will work on piecing 4 blocks. [Sewing machine required.]
Friday May 14: Sherrill Lewis -- Beadifully Crazy!
Bead embroider the seams using bugle beads, seed beads, and novelty beads to create a beaded version of CQ stitches. Also, you will learn some quick and easy bead motifs from the cross-your-fingers about-to-be-published book! Students should bring a small, naked CQ block to embellish, as well as matching or contrasting beads. Or you may work a sampler which you may later frame. In the Beady Kit, Sherrill will provide needles, thread, fabric, and a nice assortment of beads to whet your creative appetite.
Saturday May 15: De Crow -- Enchanted Embellishments pic1 pic2 pic3:
Discovering a myriad of innovative techniques to add bling, pizzazz, and uniqueness to your CQ art!
"It is a happy talent to know how to play." Ralph Waldo Emerson
De will teach you how to embellish (and then some), a sweet CQ-covered tin box pin/needle-keep. The techniques will include several of these items:
Transferring images to fabrics to create an aged or antique look.
Fabric images -- add images to your artwork, including aging with acrylic paints, oil pastels, quotes, ribbon work, etc.
Fun and fanciful flower fabric women 3D embellishment.
Fabric beads, using muslin, paint and embellishments.
Pipe cleaner magic -- meandering and couching fabric/fiber/bead covered pipe cleaners.
Who's Got the Button? Painting on buttons.
Saturday May 15: Sherrill Lewis -- Silk Ribbon Embroidery and Beads
Taking silk ribbon embroidery a step further using common stitches as well as a several lesser-known stitches to create a pretty vignette, and embellish all of that with beads. The design may be incorporated in a pillow, needle book, or a center in a CQ block.
Sunday May 16: Martha Green -- Pincushion
Students will choose from several variations of pincushion designs. Using techniques from Martha's "Carney Roadside Attraction School of Crazy Quilting" you will construct these pincushions which, when weighted, will ride easily on the arm of a sofa or chair. You will learn how it is possible to turn small units of crazy quilting into pincushions and appliques. You will be working in felt, on a 12"x12" block you piece at home and bring to class, or piece in class using an abbreviated "Carney" method by hand or machine. Using felt would be the easiest, and quicker to complete in class time, and you would have the construction essentials down to create other crazy quilted ones at home. The felt ones may be done by hand and you won't need a machine. These pincushions are darling and can contain a pocket, scissor container, and needle case all in one.
Sunday May 16: Sherrill Lewis -- Beading over the Edge
Using wide tapestry ribbon or faux-suede, students will make a chatelaine scissor-keep necklace, or a cell phone pouch. This class will focus on two styles of making beaded fringe: classic and funky; and a beaded picot edging.
